Abstract

ABIB, José Antônio Damásio. Sensibility, happiness and culture. Temas psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.2, pp. 283-293. ISSN 1413-389X.

The concept of sensibility is reviewed in this essay. Sensibility may refer to sensation, perception and feeling. Sensibility has evolved until hedonic sensibility. Evolution has given us sensibility to events of the present, here and now. This sensibility's value is unquestionable. But it is necessary to develop educative projects of sensibility to distant consequences in the future, with survival value to the individuals, social groups and cultures. It is suggested that an education enlightened by ethics of hapiness may contribute to develop sensibility to cultural consequences with survival value of this kind, societies and cultures.

Keywords : Sensation; Perception; Feeling; Imagination; Ethics.
