Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Humberto Moacir de. The "Nostalgic" and the "Contemporary": some considerations about the position of the psychoanalyst in the twenty-first century. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.34, pp. 25-45. ISSN 1413-6295.

As far as the subject is the effect of the encounter between the living body and the Other, social, economic, and political changes occurring in the domain of the Other also stimulate some subjective and clinical changes. In face of the novelty of present times, the psychoanalyst must listen to new symptom arrangements and meet the challenges of his own time. The psychoanalyst should be critical, while avoiding both a "nostalgic" posture, as well as a condition of "well adjusted" to his time. This article aims to make a contribution to the position of the psychoanalyst in the twenty-first century, from a debate about what is to be "nostalgic" and what is to be "contemporary" from the point of view of Freudian psychoanalysis and the philosophy of Giorgio Agamben.

Keywords : Clinic; Contemporary; Nostalgia; Freud; Giorgio Agamben.
