Abstract

SCOTTI, Sérgio. Psychoanalysis, Desire and Style. Psychê [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.15, pp. 77-92. ISSN 1415-1138.

This work deals with the relationship between psychoanalysis and literature initiated by Freud and continued by Lacan, specially in his seminar The desire and its interpretation , still unpublished, where, departing from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Lacan suggests that the work of art can be as a cut in reality, where the subject’s Real expresses itself. This statement by Lacan is linked together in this work with Freud’s text The poet and the daydreams , where a comparison between the literary work and the dream is established. From there on, using Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary as an example, we try to relate the author’s style to the concepts of desire and the ghost.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Literature; Desire; Style; Ghost.
