Abstract

CATHARIN, Verônica; CAMPOS, Érico Buno Viana  and  BOCCHI, Josiane Cristina. Psychoanalysis, bariatric surgery and obesity: an integrative review. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2020, vol.23, n.1, pp. 81-94. ISSN 1516-0858.

Currently there is a significant increase in obesity and the performance of bariatric and metabolic surgeries. Psychology, and more specifically psychoanalysis, has a theoretical-conceptual scope from which to approach these phenomena of contemporaneity. The present study carried out an integrative review of the psychoanalytic research on obesity and bariatric and metabolic surgery. The results of searches in national and international databases using the keywords "psychoanalysis"; "obesity" and "bariatric surgery", in English and Portuguese, allowed us to obtain a sample of 7 articles. These enabled the construction of an initial characterization of psychoanalytic productions on the objects of study. The review evidenced the complexity of the phenomenon, given the diversity of ways of conceiving obesity and its etiology in the context of psychoanalytic theory and the lack of specific models for evaluating this demand. This type of work is important because, in addition to supporting future research in the area, the published articles tell the story of psychological knowledge about obesity and bariatric surgery.

Keywords : psychoanalysis; obesity; bariatric surgery; gastroplasty; review literature.
