MENDES, Layza Castelo Branco et al. Mental health of health professionals in times of COVID-19 pandemic: an integrative review. Mental [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.24, pp. 1-20. ISSN 1679-4427.

The global health crisis caused by the SARS-COV-2 pandemic, COVID 19, made necessary emergency measures of social isolation to alleviate the collapse in hospitals and the exponential transmission of the virus but, in Brazil, such measures were not enough to avoid the work overload of health professionals who work on the front lines. Thus, this article aims to debate and reflect on the mental health of health professionals in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to carry out this article, an exploratory study of a qualitative nature was carried out through a bibliographic survey in the Virtual Health Library - Psychology (BVS-Psi) and Journals of the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) databases. The descriptors Mental Health AND Nurses AND Covid-19 and the descriptors Mental Health AND Physicians AND Covid-19 were used. So, 16 articles were selected for the composition of an integrative review and later a categorization of the themes was carried out: 1) risk factors related to mental health in times of pandemic and 2) coping strategies. Thus, the implications of intense work demands, experiences in situations that trigger guilt, fear and anger in the mental health of health professionals were observed, as well as the urgent need to facilitate the care of these professionals through the strengthening of health care strategies. coping. It was also understood, as some limitations, the absence of articles that addressed the situation of nursing technicians in the context of the pandemic, as well as studies that covered the reality of other regions of the country. Therefore, we consider the need for further studies to be developed to apprehend these aspects and enable a more complete understanding.
