Abstract

AVILA, Lazslo Antonio. The Ego is plural: groups: the psychoanalytical perspective. Vínculo [online]. 2009, vol.6, n.1, pp. 39-52. ISSN 1806-2490.

This work aims to contribute to the construction of conceptual bases for a psychoanalytical theory of human groups. We developed a deconstruction of the notion of the Ego as the primary and fundamental unit of psychological and social processes. The Ego is challenged in its unitary representation and for this a discussion of the necessary inter-relationship between the singular individual and the significant others with whom he has shared his life since birth is made. We use psychoanalytical references, mainly Freud, Kaës and Bion, to articulate this discussion, which also makes use of literary metaphors. We conclude stressing the essential role that inter-subjective links play in the configuration of both the individual and the group.

Keywords : Groups; Psychoanalysis; Individual; Group psychotherapy.
