The following article reports an assistance experience in a family support group implanted on a Social Work Reference Center (in Portuguese, Centro de Referência de Assistência Social, CRAS) located in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo. In this specific group, the coordinator uses the theory and the methodology of the PichonRivière operating groups, associating the attendance with the Service of Protection and Integral Assistance to Families (in Portuguese, Serviço de Proteção e Atendimento Integral às Famílias, PAIF)'s goals of having community bonds strengthened, potentials development, autonomy and protective functions of families and individuals.
