This article focuses on three points that can summarize some historical picture of the relationship between art and madness in Brazil: 1) it lists the medical-philosophical elements that tend to compete when we speak of this "friction"; 2) one important episode is presented in this context, and it consists in the rescue of the art reception that the art critic had about the art works exhibited by the Museum of Images of the Unconscious (between 1940-1960). 3) In conclusion, we bring some reflection on the writing of Stela do Patrocínio, which became a prime example of this reception and in the ways of thinking the relation art and madness on the present day.
