Bariatric surgery is the main treatment for obesity, require major changes in routine and impact the mental health of the subjects submited. This review aims to investgate the main psychic consequences from bariatric. Through the survey of scientific articles in the PsyInfo, SciELO and PubMed databases and the analysis of the studies, it was possible to discuss the psychic effects and the main strategies used by professionals in this area. In all, 44 articles were analyzed. The main psychological traits found were depression, quality of life, anxiety, self-image, eating disorders and social life. As for the strategies used by the professionals, the main was awareness, through psycho-educatonal activites and therapeutic groups. Therefore, psychological impacts of bariatric surgery are perceived, both in enhancement the quality of life and social life, and in the appearance of depressive and anxious conditons, and awareness of the whole process and complexity of bariatric as a main facilitator in coping these aspects.
