Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Daniella Machado de. Clinical care of adolescents in the school environment. Psicol. Ensino & Form. [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.1, pp. 20-40. ISSN 2177-2061.

This narrative account aims to present some of Winnicott's contributions regarding the stage of adolescence, especially aiming at the work of those who educate adolescents. Winnicott stresses that adolescence is a period in which the young individual is essentially immature, an isolated being that rejects false solutions and seeks to feel real, looking for experiences that will propitiate that feeling. Based on his theory of emotional maturity, the narrative portrays both the dynamics present in the maturing adolescent and what functions as a suitable environment (family, school, cultural) should perform to sustain this maturation. The Winnicotian ideas on adolescence explored here are aimed at gaining a better understanding of adolescents, on the part of adolescents themselves, their parents, their teachers and all who have dealt with them, including psychologists, whose interest lies in this area.
