CUNHA, Antonio José Ledo Alves da  e  CORSINO, Patrícia. Children and their thousand days: articulations between health and education. Desidades [online]. 2021, n.31, pp. 89-105. ISSN 2318-9282.

This article aims to establish a dialogue between Health and Early Childhood Education. It takes as a starting point for dialogue issues concerning the first thousand days of children. The first part deals with the origin of the thousand days, presents the health look on this period, defines comprehensive care and discusses the legal framework of early childhood that aims to articulate intersectoral policies. The second part deals with education as a right that embraces other rights. It discusses the quality of the offer of Early Childhood Education for the integral development of children, the non-dissociation between caring and educating, raises questions to discuss the development of children in the first years of life and teaching in Early Childhood Education. The third part concludes with questions for current policies. Early childhood policies, with emphasis on the first thousand days, are essential for the full development of individuais, for the improvement of societies and for the reduction of inequalities.
