EDITORIAL POLICY

Focus and scope

The Journal of Political Psychology is a continuously published journal linked to the Brazilian Association of Political Psychology (ABPP). The journal is a publication aimed at the interdisciplinary field of Political Psychology. It is, therefore, a journal of studies on issues in the field of Political Psychology that focuses on reflection on political behavior in contemporary societies. The point of intersection between these two scientific areas – Psychology and Politics – has been the concern with constructing a universe of debate in which neither objective nor subjective conditions are absent; on the contrary, they are being understood, by different theoretical approaches, as co -determinants , and therefore constituents of collective behaviors, discourses, social actions, and representations that constitute political antagonisms in the social field. The journal is concerned with the development of this interdisciplinary field of reflection and investigative practice, in which the main debates have been gathered around issues such as social prejudice, different forms of racism, xenophobia, collective actions and social movements, collective and social violence, political socialization, electoral behavior, power relations, democratic values and authoritarianism, fascism, aesthetics and politics, social participation and public policies, as well as studies on public opinion and mass media. Studies on discourse and ideology analysis, symbolic universes, and institutional practices are also included in these concerns. Issues related to theoretical and methodological debates in this field are welcomed by this editorial board, which is concerned with scientifically debating the deepening of the themes constituting the interface between political and psychological aspects.

Open Access

This journal follows the Open Access model , allowing unrestricted virtual access (including financial restrictions) to all scientific texts published by the journal.

Open access is the condition in which the copyright holder of an academic work grants usage rights to third parties using an open license ( Creative Commons "Attribution (CC-BY), allowing immediate free access to the work and authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of the articles, track them for indexing, pass them as data to software or use them for any other lawful purpose."

Compliance with Open Science

This journal follows the Diamond Open Access model .
Following Open Science guidelines, the journal Psicologia Política adopts an open access policy, uses social media to disseminate published works, publishes continuously, and encourages the use of preprint repositories to accelerate the communication of research. The journal encourages authors to make all content related to the manuscript text (data, program code, and other materials) available from the time of submission or at the time of publication, except in cases involving legal and ethical issues. This data may be published in the manuscript itself or made available in open online repositories, and the information must be indicated and referenced in the manuscript. These practices facilitate the evaluation of articles and the use of collected data for further analysis.
The journal Psicologia Política offers authors and reviewers the option of having their names publicly disclosed during the peer review process, with or without identification. Authorization for the disclosure of names can be given by both parties at the time of submission and evaluation, respectively, by completing the Open Science Compliance Form and the Evaluation Form, both available on the SciELO Submission platform .
The contributions of the people responsible for the editorial content will be duly credited in the body of the published articles.

Preprints

preprint articles , aiming to accelerate the communication of research results. A preprint is defined as a manuscript ready for submission to a journal and deposited on reliable preprint servers before or in parallel with submission to a journal.
The use of preprints is optional for authors. When applicable, the Open Science Compliance Form must be completed upon submission of the article to the journal, indicating the name of the Preprint server and the DOI assigned to the document.

Preprints share the distinction of being original publications with journals , but they also inhibit the double-blind peer review process for manuscripts. The journal recommends publishing preprint articles on public platforms such as SciELO Preprints and Psyarxiv .

Open data

The journal Psicologia Política encourages the sharing of primary data, codes, and other materials produced in research that are usually underlying submitted manuscripts. This information may be made available both at the time of submission and at the time of publication, with the aim of contributing to the evaluation of the manuscript, as well as to the preservation and reuse of data from research approved for publication. Legal and ethical impediments may justify the omission of such materials, and their availability (or non-availability) must be indicated in the Open Science Compliance Form that must be included with the submission. SciELO provides a list of recommended repositories for depositing research data , including SciELO Data , as well as a guide to citing research data and the TOP guide for promoting openness, transparency, and reproducibility of research.

In case of differing opinions, a third will be called upon.

The evaluation of manuscripts submitted to RPP will focus on the scientific merit of the work, its form and content, and its compliance with the journal's editorial standards. Reviewers may recommend to the editors acceptance without modifications, conditional acceptance subject to indicated modifications, or rejection of the manuscript. The objective of the ad hoc reviewers' opinions is to offer the author suggestions and recommendations for improving the scientific quality of the text and to guide the editor regarding the publication or non-publication of the manuscript.
The recommendations contained in the reviews must be addressed or substantially refuted in a letter to the editor who will make the final evaluation. This letter should present the changes made to the text and the authors' arguments justifying the points in the reviews that were not addressed. Furthermore, revised versions of the manuscript should highlight the main additions/changes in red font.
Revised versions will be re-evaluated by the editors, who may request new opinions from ad hoc reviewers. The final decision on the publication of an article will always rest with the editors. Authors can follow all stages of the editorial process online through the user interface in the journal's publishing system.
