Abstract

SCOZ, Carolina. Deconfine the pain: From tragic ruptures to grief odysseys. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.74, pp.81-93.  Epub Aug 02, 2024. ISSN 0101-3106.  https://doi.org/10.5935/0101-3106.v44n74.09.

This essay brings into focus the emotional challenges imposed on those who have suffered deep losses during the recent coronavirus pandemic and that, due to restrictions to social connections, have been given lower chances of remembering and elaboration, two profoundly intersubjective experiences. Fictional literature excerpts have been used to illustrate the fundamental role of social bonds in working through grief, particularly when the present circumstances favour the alienation and banalization of death.

Keywords : isolation; reactive depression; melancholy; mourning; social bonds.
